What is the tax-free threshold in South Africa for 2026/27?
For the 2027 tax year (1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027) you pay no income tax if you earn below R99,000 a year (under 65), R153,250 (65 to 74), or R171,300 (75 and older).
What income tax rates apply in South Africa for 2026/27?
Individual income tax starts at 18% and rises progressively to a top marginal rate of 45% on taxable income above R1,878,600. A primary rebate of R17,820 reduces the tax for all individuals.

The standard VAT rate in South Africa is 15%, effective since 1 April 2018. Some supplies are zero-rated (0%) or exempt from VAT.
